is a Japanese dyeing method in which natural and everyday materials such as flowers, herbs, vegetable peels, Coffee grounds, Tea are used to dye fabrics.

Living Dyeing” is a project that focuses on life, process, nature, and cycles.

Using materials Yurika encounters through her surrounding environment, local, and people to create.

To live is to be in a continuous process — and in an age where technology allows for fast and easy dyeing, this project values time, effort, and physical experience.

Through products and workshops, “Living Dyeing” explores and shares this slow, mindful approach to making.

リビングダイイングは、Yurikaの周りの環境、地域、人を通して出会った素材を用いて色を生み出すことで、工程や自然、循環に意識を当てたプロジェクトです。

生きていることは工程であり、技術発展において短縮可能な工程を、時間、手間、体感を通しておこない作品やワークショップをおこなっていくプロジェクトです。

Inspired by traditional Japanese natural dyeing techniques, she creates soft grays, warm browns, and deep blue-black hues through the natural reaction between iron and the tannins contained in tea leaves.

The tea leaves are collected from restaurants in Berlin, giving them a second life as color after they have been enjoyed as a drink.

Those earth-toned hand-dyed works reflect the unique character of each tea leaf and natural fiber, celebrating the cycle of tea from teaware to textile.

I hope to gently weaves together tea culture, nature, sustainability, and traditional knowledge in a quiet and creative way.

日本の伝統的な染めに着想を得て、鉄分と茶葉に含まれるタンニンの自然な反応を利用し、柔らかな色合いや赤みがかった茶色、深みのある青黒色を創り出しています。

茶葉はドイツ ベルリンの店で飲まれたものを再利用しており、それぞれの茶葉や自然繊維の個性を反映した染め作品は、飲むという行為から流動的な色/布へと至るお茶の緩やかな循環を映し出し、染色という工程を通して多角的な意味を茶葉に見出します。

茶文化、自然、循環、先人の知恵を穏やかに結びつける、茶染めにはそんな奥深さがあります。
