-The Wonder of Leaves
As the temperature drops, the trees begin to prepare to store energy for the winter.
The leaf chloroplasts are absorbed as nutrients by the tree, and the leaves lose their green color.
Gradually, the yellow carotenoids that the trees originally had begin to show themselves, and autumn begins.
Glucose, which is no longer absorbed due to the drop in temperature, combines with anthocyanidins to produce red anthocyanins. Red leaves.
Eventually, both the yellow and red color are broken down to produce tannin, an astringent component, and the color turns brown.
We have been waiting for this tannin.
I collected fallen leaves along the river and boiled them. I dyed the canvas and threads and mordanted them with rust from nails.

Trees that were buried by water, sediment, or volcanoes for some reason in ancient times are replaced by stones over a vast period of time.

The pressure exerted by the earth's strata causes groundwater containing silicic acid, a compound of silicon, oxygen, and hydrogen, to enter the tree's cellular tissue, transforming the tree into a substance called silicon dioxide (silica) without changing its original form, which hardens and becomes fossilized in the same manner as quartz and crystal.

-葉の不思議
気温が下がると木は冬に備えエネルギーを蓄える支度を始める。
葉の葉緑体は木の栄養素として吸収され、緑色がなくなっていく。
次第に元々持っていた黄色のカロテノイドが顔を出す、秋のはじまり。
気温低下で吸収しきれなくなったグルコースがアントシアニジンと結合し、赤色のアントシアニンが作られる。
紅葉。
やがて黄色も赤も分解され、渋味成分のタンニンが生成され茶色となる。
川沿いの落ち葉を集めて煮込んだ。
キャンバスと糸を染めて釘の錆で媒染をした。

-珪化木(石化木)
古代に何らかの原因で水や土砂、火山などに埋もれた樹木が、膨大な年月をかけ石に代わっていく木。
地層からかかる圧力により木の細胞組織の中にケイ素と酸素、水素との化合物であるケイ酸を含有した地下水が入り込むことによって、樹木が原型を変えずに二酸化ケイ素（シリカ）という物質に変化することで、石英や水晶などと同様に固くなり、化石化したもの。

自然のサイクル、そこに潜む秘密と不思議。
