Yurika Saito uses textures and irregularities found in nature as part of her process, creating works that connect with the viewer’s sensory experience. 
In recent years, her focus has been on black-and-white hand embroidery, where the repeated movement of thread through fabric and the unevenness of handwork express inner landscapes and natural scenery. She also makes plant-dyeing works using waste materials from local shops, runs workshops, and creates a tea-dyeing series as a member of the Berlin Handcrafts Collective.

After studying at Tokyo Shinjuku Art Institute, she experienced the landscapes and cultures of Japan, Canada, Australia, and Europe. Her practice is influenced by different natural environments and by both Eastern and Western views of nature. Influences include Canadian painter Tom Thomson, Austrian artist Lois Weinberger’s work on the relationship between plants and humans, and Zen painting. Since moving to Berlin in 2019,her work has continued to evolve.

Balancing spontaneity and receptivity, her practice explores themes of duality, cycles, and process. Her pieces are are held in private collections in Germany, the United States, Spain, and Mexico.

自然から得た質感や不均一性をプロセスに取り入れ、鑑賞者の体感に呼応する作品作りを行う。 
近年は主に黒と白の手刺繍作品に取り組んでおり、糸が布に繰り返し上下する素朴な関係性や手作業による不均一性を通して、心象や自然の風景を表現している。 また、循環を意識した草木染め作品では、ベルリン地域の廃材を活用し、手染め制作やワークショップを実施、Berlin Handcrafts Collectiveのメンバーとして茶葉染めのシリーズも展開。

東京新宿美術学院で基礎を学んだ後、日本、カナダ、オーストラリア、ヨーロッパ各地の風景や文化に触れ、多様な自然環境や東洋・西洋双方の自然観、文化的視点から影響を受ける。カナダの風景画家Tom・Thomson、オーストリアの現代美術家Lois weinbergerによる「植物と人間の関係」、そして禅画からも大きな影響を受け、2019年ベルリンに移住後は、実践的制作を続ける。

 制作手法は自発性と受動性のバランスをとりながら展開し、「対極性」や「循環」、プロセスの在り方を表現している。
作品はドイツ、アメリカ、スペイン、メキシコにて個人所蔵。
