🌱Indigo dyeing differs from other dyeing methods in that it does not require high temperatures or extensive boiling, making it safe for children to participate.🌱

🌱Create and learn favorite Japanese shibori Tie-dye patterns.
🌱Dip the fabric in the indigo dye bath several times, then rinse with water to complete.
🌱Enjoy the experience of seeing the magical transformation from green to blue as the fabric reacts with oxygen.

Yurika Saito Living Dyeing Project

  • Yurika explored nature and culture across Japan and around the world. Since 2022, she has been practicing natural dyeing in Berlin using waste materials—such as spent tea leaves and onion skins from a restaurant—through her “Living Dyeing Project,” and offering hands-on workshop experiences.

  • Yes, you can bring your own fabric *up to 100 g

  • Prepayment

    After submitting your booking request, you will receive payment instructions via email and will be asked to make the payment within 14days.

  • Indigo water may splash, so please wear clothes that can get a little dirty or bring apron.

  • Yes, you can buy extra scarf 6€ at the workshop

  • The fabric is dyed by soaking it in a solution at a temperature of 30–40°C.

    The solution is made from powdered indigo plant sediment, fructose sugar, and calcium (food-grade).

    Since gloves are worn when soaking the fabric, there is no direct skin contact.

  • Due to limited space in the workshop space, we ask that only one guardian accompany each child.

    The fee for one kid is €30; for two kid’s is €45. Siblings and friends are welcome to participate.

  • The children’s program focuses primarily on the joy of creating tie-dye Shibori patterns and experiencing the magic of indigo dye’s color transformations.

    The adult program focuses more on sharing knowledge aboutnatural dyeing, the culture of Japanese shibori tie-dye, and techniques you can try at home.

    You’ll also learn the principles of indigo dyeing in detail and enjoy a hands-on indigo dyeing experience.

  • This method uses organic indian-indigo, fructose and calcium.

    It is one of various natural indigo dyeing techniques.

    It is a traditional natural indigo dyeing process that utilizes the blue color from plants.
