-By hunting weak or sick deer, wolves help keep the deer population healthy and prevent overgrazing. This balance is important for the entire ecosystem.

A famous example is Yellowstone National Park. After wolves were reintroduced there, the number of deer (elk) decreased. As a result, plants and trees started to grow back, which created better habitats for birds, beavers, and many other animals. Wolves played a key role in restoring the natural balance.

オオカミのような捕食者がシカなどの草食動物を捕食することで、鹿の個体数が増えすぎるのを防ぐ。

狩の際に弱った個体や病気の鹿を狙うことで、鹿の群れ全体がより健康に保たれ、群れに病気が広がったり増えすぎて餌となる植物を食べ尽くしてしまうリスクを減らし生態系全体のバランスが保たれる。

有名な例: アメリカ・イエローストーン国立公園
絶滅していたオオカミが再導入されたことで鹿の数が適正になり、森や川の環境が回復した。

日本での狼の神話と神社、狼信仰と山岳、自然信仰

- In Japan, people did not worship wolves as just animals. Wolves were seen as protectors of the mountains and messengers of the gods. This belief shows respect and gratitude for the power of nature.
Wolves also became a symbol of living together with nature.

日本の狼信仰は、単なる動物への信仰ではなく、山や自然の力への畏敬・感謝を表した文化でもあり、狼は「神が宿る山の守り神」「畏れるべき自然の象徴」でもあ。あり、自然と人間の共存の象徴でもあった。

- In Germany, wolves are feared in the past as dangerous animals, often shown as villains in fairy tails like “Little Red Riding Hood“. Nut today, wolves are returnig to the wild and protected.

Many now consider wolves to be an important animal in maintaining the balance of nature, but the increase in the number of wolves also led to more problems with attacks on sheep/livestock. Wolves also appear in German mythology and names, symbolizing strength and power.

ドイツにて、オオカミは赤ずきんちゃんのようなおとぎ話で度々悪役として登場する。しかし一度絶滅しかけたドイツの狼は2000年の保護活動から徐々に野生に戻り保護されている。

最近ではオオカミは自然のバランスを保つための重要な動物だと考えられているけれども、野生のオオカミが増えたことで羊などの家畜が襲われる問題も増えてきている。
ドイツの神話や名前にも登場し、強さと力を象徴している。

白と黒、善と悪、そういった対極の価値観はいつでも変化し、自然の循環のようにつながっている。狼というテーマだが、そこから抽象的な表現を共に展開していきたいと思っています。
